The 2020 Modern Retail Awards celebrated brands, agencies, retailers and platforms that responded to a most challenging and unusual year for consumers and shopping. Our honorees — which included Brooklinen, 1-800-Contacts and Imperfect Foods — drove innovation, sustainability and the overarching concept of doing good while driving a business forward.
Winners include:
Brooklinen turned six years old in 2020 and scored twice with our judges, winning Best Email Campaign and Best Digitally-Native Brand. The brand’s campaigns featured interactive beats, data-driven personalization, algorithm-supported recommendations and a strategy designed to get ahead of the worry and discomfort that days of quarantine and lockdowns created.

Responding to the 2020 travel-restrictions, in 2020, 1-800-Contacts won Best Use of Technology for its new at-home digital ExpressExam program — which offered results reviewed by a board-certified eye doctor within 24 hours and orders shipped in a few days or less.
Leveraging its deep connections to food supplies, Imperfect Foods is the Best Established Retailer winner this year. Proving itself to be more than just a food subscription service, Imperfect Foods pivoted to offer emergency response for people most in need of its contactless delivery programs.
